What is a precision seed drill?
A precision seed drill is an adjustable, technological seeding solution. It features a “seed by seed” distribution system.
KUHN precision seed drills meet customer expectations, which include:
- Ensuring that the distance between rows is maintained to:
- Make harvesting easier,
- Promote plant development.
- Respecting the seeding depth for:
- Uniform germination making crop management easier,
- Ideal placement of the seed in the moist/dry contact horizon,
- Maximum seed-to-soil contact.
- Preservation of the seed population, to:
- Place the seeds at a fixed distance apart,
- Plant crops where seed price is a deciding factor.
To meet customer expectations, the KUHN range is characterised by a seed drill which is:
- Reliable, stable and robust.
- Versatile = all types of seed including mini seed & all types of sowing conditions.
- Technological, Section Control, seeding in field curves, dose modulation.
- User-friendly, easily adjusted without tools.
Impact of the precision seed drill on seeding performance
Using a KUHN precision seed drill makes it possible to obtain high-precision seeding with regular distances between seeds. It adapts to the development of precision farming, seeking to optimise inputs while increasing seeding performance.
The precision seed drill ensures favourable plant growth conditions. Successful seeding can ensure up to 50% of the performance. Failure of seeding impacts an average of up to 10% on the crop's potential. (Example Maize, Source Pioneer)
KUHN innovation in precision seed drills
KUHN provides technologies in its offer to support farmers in their technical processes. The electric precision seed drill solution simplifies the adjustment of the seed drill, the use of the section control and gives access to modulation of:
- seeding density, row-by-row,
- fertilisation, 2 sections,
- microgranular, 1 section.
Dose modulation
Why modulate the dose row by row?
In Europe, the overall agricultural context is trending towards an increase in farm size. These structures have inherited a history of diversified management practices and fragmented terrain.
There are many different types of soil within a field. This diversity affects access to the resources.
The aim of seed application modulation is to obtain equitable distribution of the resource for a stress-free crop. (+ uniform germination).
The use of modulation is justified economically and agronomically. Farmers maximises their income by using less seed and input while achieving the maximum potential of the crop (based on spatial criteria).
- Section Control + Modulation = 3% seed savings (source)
- Increased performance = up to 8%
Farmers meet their agronomic objectives by avoiding soil depletion and promoting soil regeneration.
Which type of KUHN precision seed drill is right for you?
What is your precision seed drill profile?
These guiding factors will assist you in making your selection.
Quality planting is essential to improve crop performance. To increase the efficiency of your seeding, it is advisable to choose a precision seed drill tailored to your needs. This type of seed drill ensures successful planting and is ideal for maize, sunflowers, rapeseed and leguminous crops such as peas, beans, lentils, broad beans and chickpeas.
Do you have a KOSMA profile?
“I am looking for a lightweight, precise solution with a good price-performance ratio”
The KOSMA seed drill is particularly suited for use in prepared soils and at seeding speeds of up to 8 km/h. The low weight of this seed drill is ideal in conventional tilled soils and makes it perfectly adapted to light, 4-cylinder tractors and for use with a rotary harrow.
What are the KOSMA precision seed drill advantages?
Low power requirements thanks to its lightweight design
The low weight of the KOSMA element, less than 95 kg, makes it a wise choice for tractors with reduced lifting capacity. This feature also allows for more economical use in terms of traction requirements, reducing fuel consumption and soil compaction during seeding.
Perfect for finely prepared soils
The KOSMA ground pressure system is designed to adapt easily to different field conditions. It offers an additional load capacity of 12.5 or 25 kg, to improve soil penetration and stable planting, even in loose soils in finely prepared fields. The front-mounted equipment and press wheel also allow the seed drill configuration to be adapted to suit the requirements of the field.
Superior price-performance ratio
The KOSMA precision seed drill stands out for its lighter weight, resulting in an affordable price. Nevertheless, it offers seeding precision equivalent to that of the MAXIMA 3 range in prepared soil conditions. This seed drill is also well-known for its robustness and reliability, meeting the most demanding expectations.
The KOSMA R chassis - Folding
The KOSMA R precision seed drill folding lightweight chassis is ideal for sugar beet, chicory or rapeseed. Its design allows for reduced soil compaction and ensures optimal seeding quality with tractors from 200hp. With options such as the stainless-steel wheels, clod clearers and trash removers, beet planting is particularly successful. The precise settings are compatible with precision farming (VRA and TC-SC). The electric version provides fast and easy combination for 8-row or 12-row planting and the GPS section control keeps production costs under control.
Available in 8, 9, 11 or 12 rows with 45 to 80 cm spacing.
Choice of mechanical or electric drive.
Do you have a MAXIMA 3 profile?
“I seek performance and need equipment that is perfectly adapted to my practices”
Ideal for sowing maize, sunflower, beet, rapeseed, sorghum, cereals, soya and beans, the MAXIMA 3 combines precision, speed, reliability, robustness and adaptability. The MAXIMA 3 range is available in 12 models, from 6 to 12 rows, and sows with precision between 37.5 and 80 cm with a variety of chassis types (folding, telescopic, adjustable, etc.).
What are the MAXIMA 3 precision seed drill advantages?
The best precision up to 10 km/h
By improving seed selection and ejection, the MAXIMA 3 improves seeding precision up to 10 km/h. The seeding unit offers outstanding stability and guarantees very even seeding depths with its powerful ground pressure system (max. 180 kg). Moreover, the seed drop point is located where the gauge wheels touch the ground for perfect seed placement.
Simple and intuitive adjustments
The MAXIMA 3 precision seed drill features easy, intuitive settings. The ground pressure, the trash remover and gauge wheel settings can be adjusted without tools for greater comfort and speed.
